JustOne Belfast is a partnership between Crown Jesus Ministries, Newtownbreda Baptist Church, CFC Belfast, Willowfield Church, Orangefield Presbyterian Church, UT Belfast and J.John.
This one-day event is an opportunity for Christians across Northern Ireland to bring their relatives, friends, neighbours and colleagues to hear the good news of Jesus Christ proclaimed in the famous CS Lewis Square in Belfast.
CS Lewis Square features seven bronze sculptures from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, including the great lion, Aslan. There is a beautiful quote in C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia which comes from the great lion:
‘I am [in your world].’ said Aslan. ‘But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.’
As J.John preaches the gospel in this unique setting, it is our hope and prayer that many may come to know the true and living Jesus.
Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, is a city known for its industry. Harland and Wolff (famous for building the Titanic) used to be the largest shipyard in the world, boasting a 35,000-strong workforce. Back in 1923, 2,000 of these workers marched straight out of work, still dressed in their dungarees, to go and hear the evangelist W.P. Nicholson preach. Such was the significance of the preaching that a shed named the ‘Nicholson shed’ was erected in the shipyard to house the stolen tools that newly converted workers were returning. This event in 1923 was the last large-scale outdoor evangelistic event to be held in East Belfast – until now.
J.John said, ‘I am excited to be a part of JustOne Belfast. Northern Ireland has been a special place in my heart. In 1979–1980 I worked at the Christian Renewal Centre in Rostrevor. It will be a joy to be back. My wife Killy’s grandmother, Patricia McConnell, came to Christ in 1922 in Bangor hearing the evangelist W.P. Nicholson, and then went to Burma as a missionary. This makes it even more special to be preaching in East Belfast where W.P. Nicholson had preached.’
Mitch, co-founder and evangelist with Crown Jesus Ministries, said, ‘Nothing unites the church quite like the mission of God and it is my prayer that the worship and witness of JustOne Belfast will see lives changed and a legacy of church partnership for many years to come.’
